Does the thought of having to go to a commercial gym to workout put you off training? Do you hate having to wait for machines to be free? Are you sick and tired of using gym equipment that is soaked in sweat? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then learning how to get ripped at home, might be very beneficial!

In this hub, I will be talking about some important tips that will help you get a solid gym workout to get ripped and fit, all in the comfort of your own home. If you have been scratching your head, wondering if a home workout is as effective as a commercial gym workout, after reading this hub, you can decide for yourself!

Tip #1 - Make Sure You Have Enough Space

Straight off the bat, if you don’t have enough space to workout at home, then it’s just not going to happen. It’s as simple as that. You will need at the absolute minimum, enough room to fit in a bench press and have at least one meter of space around the perimeter of the machine.

The best places for a home gym set-up are in a spare room in the house, the basement or even outside, as long as there is sufficient covering overhead.

Tip #2 - Get The Right Equipment

Depending on the space in your house and your budget, the sky is really the limit as to how much gym equipment you want to use to learn how to get ripped at home. If you have a big budget and lots of space, you can purchase many individual machines and spend a lot of money in the process.

But most people will have a small budget and limited space. So what is the best equipment for a home gym? The only machine that I would say that's an absolute necessity is a bench press. Then you will obviously need free weights, which include plates, barbell, and dumbbells. This is all you need to get an excellent home workout.

Tip #3 - Be Careful Of Procrastination

If you are serious about learning how to get ripped at home, then you’re going to need to be careful of procrastination. You could have your gym set up with expensive, cutting edge equipment, but if you fail to motivate yourself to use the gym, then you have just wasted all your money.

The most difficult thing about working out at home is trying to motivate yourself to workout! Everybody who does home workouts, will at some stage battle with a lack of motivation. It’s worth preparing for this ahead of time by developing a muscle building mindset, so you can power through the doubts and frustrations and keep following your training routine.

Tip #4 - Be Extra Careful

Training at home has many advantages over a commercial gym workout. You don’t have to spend time going to and from the gym, sometimes in peak hour traffic. You don’t have to wait for other people to finish using a machine before you use it. You can shower in your own home and not have to worry about getting things such as athlete’s foot. And there are a ton more advantages, but there is one big disadvantage...safety!

Typically, in a home gym you will not have a workout buddy or somebody to spot you on some exercises. This is particularly dangerous if you are doing barbell bench lifts. At least 50 people die each year in the United States alone due to benching at home. This is a high risk activity when you don’t have a spotter. So what can you do to make this exercise safe?

Obviously, the first solution is to get somebody to spot you but if this isn’t an option, there are a few things you can still do. Swapping the barbell bench press for the dumbbell bench press is the simplest way to stay safe. But if you are set on doing bench presses with a barbell, then leave the collars off at the end. Then if you get into any trouble, you can roll the weight off to the side and the plates will fall off. Remember, stay safe at all times while lifting weights.

I hope by now you realize that you definitely can learn how to get ripped at home. There are many top athletes, trainers and bodybuilders who train at home, and there isn’t any reason why you cannot do the same. Just make sure you follow these four tips to get set up correctly and you will be on your way to getting ripped in the comfort of your own home!
